Recheck to ta l indicator run-out to verify th a t run -o u t is
w ithin .006 inch. Install fan belt and adjust.
Water Pump
Removal
1.
Drain radiator and break loose the fan pulley bolts.
2.
D isconnect h eater hose, low er rad iator hose and by pass
hose (as required) at w ater pum p.
3.
Loosen D elcotron an d remove fan belt th e n remove fan
b olts, fan and pulley.
C A U T IO N :
If a fan blade is bent or damaged in
any w ay, no atte m p t should be made to repair and
reuse the damaged part. A bent or damaged fan
assembly should always be replaced w ith a new fan
assembly.
It
is essential
that fan
proper
balance
and
assured once a fan assembly has been bent or
damaged. A fan assembly that is not in proper
balance could fail and fly apart during subsequent
use creating an extrem ely dangerous condition.
N O T E :
Therm ostatic fan clutches must be kept in
an "in-car" position. When removed fro m the car

the assembly should be supported so th at the clutch
disc remains in a vertical plane to prevent silicone
fluid leakage.
4.
Remove p um p to cylinder block bolts and remove pum p
and old gasket from engine.
N O T E :
On in line engines, pull the pum p straight
out of the block first, to avoid damage to impeller.
Installation
1.
Install pum p assem bly on cylinder block th en , using a
new sealer coated pum p-to-block gasket tighten bolts
securely.
2.
Install pum p pulley and fan on pum p hub and tighten
bolts securely.
N O T E :
A guide stud (5 /1 6 " -2 4 x 1" bolt w ith the
head removed) installed in one hole of the fan will
aid in aligning hub, pulley and fan. Remove stud
after starting the remaining three bolts.
3.
C onnect hoses and fill cooling system .
4.
Install fan b elt and adjust as previously outlined.
5.
S tart engine and check for leaks.
