11. D isconnect E vaporation C ontrol System lines a t rocker
arm cover and at carburetor—position lines to one side.
12.
D isconnect pow er brake vacuum hose at rocker arm
tube-to-hose junction.
13.
Raise vehicle on a hoist and disconnect:
Fuel line (from tank ) a t fuel pum p.
Engine ground strap(s).
Steering idler arm a t frame.
Steering pitm an arm at steering gear as outlined in
Section 9.
Stabilizer shaft at fram e brackets.
B attery positive cable at starter.
Shock absorbers at lower control arm .
Speedom eter cable at transm ission.
TCS sw itch at transm ission— remove bell housing
m ounted clip and position wiring to one side.
Transmission at crossm em ber.
E xhaust crossover at m anifolds and at muffler.
14.
Rem over propeller shaft as o utlined in Section 4 — install
plug in transm ission extension.
15.
D isconnect clutch linkage an d /o r transm ission linkage
and remove cross shaft as o utlin ed in Section 7.
16.
D isconnect fro n t brake pipe at equalizer tee, disconnect
rear brake pipe a t left fram e rail m ou nted connector and
a t right fram e rail m o u n ted connector (Fig. IV ).

R em o v e
transm ission
attaching n u ts— do n o t rem ove bolts at this tim e.

Remove th e six (3 on each side) vertically driven fro n t
crossm em ber-to-fram e attachin g bolts (Fig. 2V).
19.
Remove th e fo ur (2 on each side) fram e-to-upper control
arm (inside) attaching bolts (Fig. 3V).
20.
Low er th e vehicle on hoist so th a t w eight o f vehicle is on
hoist b u t w ith wheels touching floor and suspension at
curb height.
21.
Install w ood block betw een oil pan and crossm em ber to
stabilize engine assem bly (Fig. 4V ).
22.
P osition floor ja ck under vehicle so th a t jack pad is
aligned under transm ission and, using a block o f w ood to
p ro tec t transm ission, sup po rt transm ission w ith jack (Fig.
5 V).

Remove transm ission supp ort crossm em ber.

Remove th e four (2 on each side) remaining suspension-
to-fram e (outside) retaining bolts (Fig. 3V).

Raise vehicle slowly, leaving suspension and pow er train
on the floor, u n til sufficient clearance is obtain ed for
removing engine.
C A U T IO N :
Check often when raising the vehicle
to make sure th a t all disconnects have been made
and that vehicle is positioned properly on hoist.

Roll the pow er train and suspension assem bly to the
w ork area and position jack stand under transm ission

extension (Fig.
V )—remove floor jack.
27.
Place floor ja ck under suspension crossm em ber and raise
jack so th a t w eight o f assembly is supported on jack pad,
(Fig. 4V).
28.
A ttach lifting device to support engine, remove engine
m ount through bolts and remove engine assembly from
crossm em ber.
