4.
Install (if rem oved) oil filler bracket, air cleaner bracket,
coil, accelerator retu rn spring and bracket and accelerator
bellcrank.
5.
Install d istributor, positioning ro to r at chalk m ark, then
install distributor cap.

. C onnect:
Spark advance hose at distributor.
Crankcase ventilation lines (as required).
Fuel line at carburetor.
A ccelerator linkage at pedal lever.
B attery cables at b attery .
7.
A djust accelerator linkage as outlined.
8
. Install air cleaner.
9.
Fill w ith coolant, start engine, adjust ignition tim ing and
carburetor idle speed and check fo r leaks.
EXHAUST M A N IF O LD
Removal
If removing right manifold, remove engine
N O T E :
cover to obtain access to carburetor heater.
1.
On right m anifold, rem ove carburetor heater.
2.
Raise vehicle o n hoist.
3.
D isconnect exhaust pipe from m anifold and hang exhaust
pipe fro m fram e w ith wire.
4.
Rem ove end bolts th e n remove center bolts and remove
m anifold.
Installation
1.
Clean m ating surfaces on m anifold and head, th e n install
m anifold in position and install bolts (finger-tight).
2.
T orque tw o center bo lts to specifications, th e n torque
four end bolts to specifications.
3.
C onnect exhaust pipe to m anifold. Use new gasket or
packing.
4.
Low er vehicle on hoist.
5.
On right m anifold, install carburetor heater and engine
cover.
6
. S tart engine and check fo r leaks.
ROCKER ARM COVER
Removal
1.
Remove air cleaner.
2.
D isconnect crankcase ventilation hoses at rocker arm
covers.
3.
D isconnect tem perature wire and plug wires from left
rocker arm clips.
4 .
Rem ove carburetor h eater from right exhaust m anifold.
5.
Rem ove rocker arm cover.
C A U T IO N :
Do N o t pry rocker arm cover loose.
Gaskets adhering to cylinder head and rocker arm
cover may be sheared by bumping end o f rocker
arm cover rearward w ith palm o f hand or a rubber
mallet.
Installation
1.
Clean gasket surfaces on cylinder head an d rocker arm
cover w ith degreaser th e n , using a new gasket, install
rocker arm cover and to rq u e to specifications.
2.
Install carb u reto r h eater (if rem oved).
3.
C onnect tem perature wire and plug wires at clips o n left
rocker arm cover.
4.
C onnect crankcase ventilation hoses (as required).
5.
Install air cleaner, start engine and check for leaks.
V A L V E MECHANISM
Removal
1.
Rem ove rocker arm covers as outlined.
2.
Remove rocker arm n uts, rocker arm balls, rocker arms
and push rods.
N O T E :
Place rocker arms, rocker arm balls and
push rods in a rack so they may be reinstalled in the
same locations.
Installation and Adjustment
N O T E :
Whenever new rocker arms and/or rocker
arm balls are being installed, coat bearing surfaces o f
rocker arms and rocker arm balls w ith "M o ly k o te "
or its equivalent.
1.
Install push rods. Be sure push rods seat in lifte r socket.
2.
Install rocker arms, rocker arm balls and rocker arm nuts.
T ighten rocker arm nuts until all lash is elim inated.
3.
A djust valves w hen lifter is on base circle o f cam shaft
lobe as follows:
