EXHAUST EMISSION CONTROL SYSTEM
Hydrocarbon
Carbon monoxide
nitrogen oxide
Carbon dioxide gas,
nitrogen gas, water
Catalytic Converter
The exhaust gas contains unburned, harmful gases. While the mix-
ture ratio is maintained to the stoichiometric point by the mixture
ratio feedback system, the three-way catalytic converter activates
to oxidize and reduce harmful gases (HC, C O and NOx) into harmless
gases (CO,, H , O and N,). In this way, the catalytic converter cleans
the exhaust gas and emits C O , , 0 and N , into the atmosphere.
Engine Management System
The engine in this vehicle is controlled by an engine management
system which controls the fuel and ignition systems to maintain
optimum efficiency and minimise exhaust emissions. Therefore
there is further information, affecting emission output, detailed in
section ES.
