Setting Downlink Power Levels

The total radio frequency (RF) downlink power at the test set's RF IN/OUT or RF OUT ONLY port is the sum
of all signals being generated within the test set, along with any amplitude offsets that have been specified.
This includes all of the downlink physical (code) channels and additive white gaussian noise (AWGN) if
enabled. Orthogonal channel noise (OCNS) may also be present, depending on the sum of the code channel
levels (see
"Noise Sources on the Downlink"
NOTE
No signal is generated by the test set during Cell Off operation, regardless of the Cell Power
setting. All settings are deferred until the Active Cell operating mode or FDD Test operating
mode is used.
The Cell Power setting sets the absolute level (in dBm) of the physical channels. The individual physical
channel levels account for fractions of this setting, and are set in dB relative to the cell power. See
Downlink Channel Codes and Levels"
Amplitude offsets are any gains or losses between the test set and the UE (mobile station) at different
frequencies, and are used by the test set to adjust its output level. See
Figure 6.

Current Level and Desired Level

The combination of cell power, amplitude offset, and AWGN level settings can result in a value that the test
set cannot actually create. For example, attempting to set the AWGN level to -13 dBm when the cell power
level is set to -15 dBm would result in a combined level that is greater than the test set can generate
(-10.88 dBm). In this case, -10.88 dBm is displayed as the Desired Level. The Current Level indicates the
actual level at the UE that is being generated by the test set.
