5.4 Manually record the heart rate during breath hold

Auto Gating requires that the heart rate be recorded during a patient breath hold to provide
profile feedback. Use this procedure to manually record the patient's heart rate and variability
when other compatible series with breath holds cannot be used, or the patient's heart range has
changed significantly.
This method may be useful when using SmartPrep instead of a Timing Bolus to initiate the scan
at optimal contrast enhancement. You may also initiate a practice breath hold recording when
the patient's heart rate changes or any time prior to the contrast enhanced scan.
A recording of at least 5 seconds is required to gather enough data to evaluate the heart rate
and variability. The breath hold duration for the scan must be at least as long as the
Recording Length setting or the recording will not be used.
1. From the image monitor, click
System Preferences .
2. Click
System Preferences window, click the ECG tab.
3. From the
Breath Record Length area, adjust the time. Valid recording lengths are 5–15
4. In the
seconds.
The system will apply the
prescribed in AutoVoice.
If no message is selected, an AutoVoice message will not be played and you will need to
provide manual breathing instructions.
The breathing commands should be the same as those given for the contrast enhanced
scan.
NOTE:
The patient's heart rate is automatically recorded during the Scout, Timing Bolus,
Calcium Scoring (Smart Score), or other CT scan series as long as the scan
duration is at least as long as the breath hold duration.
5. Click [Apply] or [Save].
6. Click [Record New HR] from the
Gating "on".
The selected AutoVoice message plays, giving pre-message breathing instructions.
When recording is completed, AutoVoice plays the post-message breathing instructions.
7. A jump point is added to the viewer. Click the jump point to review the recorded trace.
NOTE:
If a patient's heart rate characteristics have changed, use [Record] to re-record the
heart rate during a breath hold and generate new scan settings.

5.5 Manual Mode

In some cases, the patient may not be able to hold their breath. Use this procedure to manually
