SUBJECT: MAIN DRIVE GEAR
SYMPTOM:
The gears shown below wear out prematurely. This is especially true of gear C2032215 which wears ou t
after approximately 30,000 to 50,000 copies.
CAUSE:
It was found that these gears can rapidly wear out if they are not greased. It was also determined t hat a
percentage of machines manufactured from the end of 1994 to April of 1995 had an insufficient amount of
grease applied to these gears during production.

FIELD COUNTERMEASURE:
Inspect these gears and lubricate as necessary. Also, lubricate these gears whenever they are repla ced and
at yearly PM intervals as mentioned in the service manual.
PRODUCTION COUNTERMEASURE:
From May 1995, an inspection process was added to ensure these gears are properly lubricated during
production.
