This is a solid-state device similar to a photodiode array, but unlike a photodiode array, a
CCD can read one complete scan line at a time. The CCD produces an analog signal
which is converted
into a digital signal for processing.
The light reflected from the original is absorbed in the photodiode and the capacitor stores the
charge corresponding
to the light intensity.
The CCD is composed
of many such pixel elements
in series. The image signal of
each pixel element
is stored in the shift register as a charge. The thermal
heads of the
SS950 and SS830 cannot
be interchanged.
They are physically
different
in size, due
to a difference
in the number
of heating elements.
The SS950 thermal
head contains
4096 heating elements;
the SS830 contains
3072 heating elements.
