5A-44 Automatic Transmission/Transaxle:
No Gear Shift to O/D
System Description
TCM does not shift to O/D gear under any of the following condition.
• O/D off switch is turned ON, that is, "O/D OFF" lamp lights.
• Engine coolant temperature is less than 50 °C (122 °F)
• A/T fluid temperature is less than 20 °C, 68 °F.
• TCM detects the following DTCs.
P0715 / P0720 / P0725 / P1700 / P1730
Troubleshooting
WARNING
!
• When performing a road test, select a place where there is no traffic or possibility of a traffic
accident and be very careful during testing to avoid occurrence of an accident.
• Road test should be carried out with 2 persons, a driver and tester, on a level road.
Step
1 Was "A/T System Check" performed?
2 Check DTC
Is DTC P0715, P0720, P0725, P1700 or P1730 detected?
3 1) Perform running test under the following conditions and
measure voltage between terminal "G08-4" of TCM
connector and ground, terminal "G08-3" of TCM
connector and ground.
• O/D off switch is turned OFF.
• Engine coolant temperature is in normal operating
temperature.
• Selector lever is in "D" range.
• Drive vehicle with 4th gear condition referring to
"Automatic Gear Shift Diagram".
Voltage between TCM connector and ground
Between terminal "G08-4" of TCM connector and
ground: 0 – 1 V
Between terminal "G08-3" of TCM connector and
ground: 9 – 14 V
Do results satisfy the value?
4 O/D off switch signal inspection
1) With ignition switch ON, check voltage between terminal
"G07-3" of TCM connector and ground.
O/D off switch specification
O/D off switch under being released: 8 – 14 V
O/D off switch under being pressed: 0 – 1 V
Is result as specified?
Action Yes
Go to Step 2.
Perform DTC flow to
repair and retry.
Faulty shift solenoid
valve, circuit or
transaxle.
Substitute a Known-
good TCM and recheck.

No
Go to "A/T System
Check".
Go to Step 3.
"GRY" circuit shorted to
power circuit or open, or
"GRN/ORN" circuit
shorted to ground. If
wire is OK, go to Step 4.
Faulty O/D off switch or
its circuit.
If OK, substitute a
know-good TCM and
recheck.
