3A-3 Drive Shaft / Axle: Front
9. Differential side joint (LH of M/T model)
: Apply light black grease included in spare part to joint.
10. Damper (2WD A/T model and LH of 4WD A/T model)

Drive Shaft Boot On-Vehicle Inspection

Inspect drive shaft boot for tear. If even a small tear is
noted, replace with new one.
Front Drive Shaft Assembly Removal and
Installation
Removal
1) Undo caulking ("A") and remove drive shaft nut (1)
and washer.
2) Hoist vehicle.
3) Remove wheel.
4) Remove engine under covers.
5) Drain transaxle oil referring to "Manual Transaxle Oil
Change in Section 5B" for M/T model, "A/T Fluid
Change in Section 5A" for A/T model.
6) Drain transfer oil (4WD model) referring to "Transfer
Oil Change in Section 3C".
7) Remove tie-rod end split pin (1) and castle nut (2).
8) Disconnect tie-rod end (3) from steering knuckle (4)
by using special tool.
Special tool
(A): 09913-65210
: Do not reuse.

9) Pull out drive shaft joint (2) as follows.
• For vehicle without center shaft
Using tire lever (1), pull out drive shaft joint (2) so

as to release snap ring fitting of joint spline at
differential side.
• For vehicle with center shaft
Using plastic hammer (3), drive out drive shaft

joint (2) so as to release snap ring fitting of joint
spline at center shaft.
10) Disconnect front suspension control arm ball stud (1)

from steering knuckle (2) after removing ball stud
bolt (3) and nut.

[B]: For vehicle with center shaft
