5A-20 Automatic Transmission/Transaxle:
Inspection item
• Fuses ----- burning
• Parts ----- installation, damage
• Bolts ----- looseness
• Other parts that can be checked visually
Also check the following items at engine start, if possible.
• "O/D OFF" lamp ----- Operation
• Malfunction indicator lamp ----- Operation
• Charge warning lamp ----- Operation
• Engine oil pressure warning lamp ----- Operation
• Engine coolant temp. meter ----- Operation
• Other parts that can be checked visually

Malfunction Indicator Lamp (MIL) Check

Refer to the same item in "Malfunction Indicator Lamp
(MIL) Check in Section 1A" for checking procedure.

• A: Driving cycles when MIL lightening and storing DTC in ECM and TCM memory for vehicle with
immobilizer lamp
• B: Driving cycles when "O/D OFF" light flashing and storing DTC in TCM memory for vehicle without
immobilizer lamp
• *1: Trouble and DTC is not detected for vehicle without immobilizer lamp.
• *2: MIL does not light and DTC is not stored in ECM although trouble is detected and DTC is stored
in TCM for vehicle with immobilizer lamp.
• *3: "O/D OFF" lamp does not flash although DTC is detected and stored for vehicle without
immobilizer lamp.
• *4: If short circuit is detected, DTC is stored in TCM at 1 driving cycle.

"Oil Pressure Warning Light Symptom Diagnosis in

"O/D OFF" Lamp Check
1) Turn ignition switch ON.
2) Check that "O/D OFF" lamp (1) lights for about 2 sec.
and then goes OFF.
If anything faulty is found, advance to ""O/D OFF"
Lamp Circuit Check".
