Troubleshooting
Step
1 MIL power supply check
1) Turn ignition switch to ON position.
Do other warning lights come ON?
2 METER fuse check
1) Turn ignition switch to OFF position.
2) Check for fuse blow at "METER" fuse.
Is "METER" fuse in good condition?
3 MIL power supply check
1) Turn ignition switch to OFF position.
2) Remove combination meter referring to "Combination
Meter Removal and Installation in Section 9C".
3) Check for proper connection to combination meter
connector at "BLK/RED" wire terminal.
4) If OK, then turn ignition switch to ON position and
measure voltage between combination meter connector
at "BLK/RED" wire terminal and vehicle body ground.
Is voltage 10 – 14 V?
4 MIL power supply check
1) Disconnect ECM connector "G03".
2) Check for proper connection to ECM connector at "G03-
7" terminal.
3) If OK, measure voltage between "G03-7" terminal of
ECM connector and vehicle body ground with ignition
switch turned ON.
Is voltage 10 – 14 V?
5 MIL power supply check
1) Turn ignition switch to OFF position.
2) Remove combination meter referring to "Combination
Meter Removal and Installation in Section 9C".
3) Check for proper connection to combination meter
connector at "PPL/YEL" wire terminal.
4) If OK, measure resistance between "PPL/YEL" wire
terminal of combination meter connector and "G03-7"
terminal of ECM connector.

Is resistance 2 or less?
6 ECM power and ground circuit check
1) Connect combination meter connectors.
2) Using service wire, ground terminal "G03-7" of
disconnected ECM connector.
Does MIL turn on at ignition switch turned ON?
Action
Engine General Information and Diagnosis:
Yes
Go to Step 4.
Go to Step 3.
Replace combination
meter.
Go to Step 6.
Replace combination
meter.
Check ECM power and
ground circuit referring
to "MIL Does Not Light
at Ignition Switch ON
and Engine Does Not
Start Through It Is
Cranked Up". If OK,
substitute a known-
good ECM and recheck.

Go to Step 2.
Replace "METER" fuse
and check for short.
Open wire in "BLK/RED"
and "GRN" wire circuit.
Go to Step 5.
Open or high resistance
in "PPL/YEL" wire
circuit.
Replace combination
meter.
