2.1 Overview

2.1.1 Introduction to QoS Profile

QoS profile is a set of QoS configurations. It provides an easy way for performing and
managing QoS configuration. A QoS profile can contain one or multiple QoS actions. In
networks where hosts change their positions frequently, you can define QoS policies for
the specific hosts and add the QoS policies to a QoS profile. When a host is connected
to another port of a switch, you can simply apply the corresponding QoS profile to the
port statically or dynamically to maintain the same QoS configuration performed for the
host.
Currently, a QoS profile can contain configurations concerning packet filtering, traffic
policing, and priority marking.

2.1.2 QoS Profile Application Mode

I. Dynamic application mode
A QoS profile can be applied dynamically to a user or a group of users passing 802.1x
authentication. To apply QoS profiles dynamically, a user name-to-QoS profile mapping
table is required on the AAA server. For a switch operating in this mode, after a user
passes the 802.1x authentication, the switch looks up the user name-to-QoS profile
mapping table for the QoS profile using the user name and then applies the QoS profile
found to the port the user is connected to.
Corresponding to the 802.1x authentication modes, dynamic QoS profile application
can be user-based and port-based.
User-based QoS profile application
The switch generates a new QoS profile by adding user source MAC address
information to the identifying rule defined in the existing QoS profile and then applies
the new QoS profile to the port the user is connected to.
