Usage guidelines
With FRF.9 stac compression, messages are categorized into control messages and data messages.
Control messages negotiate state between the two ends of a DLCI connection with the compression
protocol enabled. FRF.9 data messages are exchanged only after the state negotiation succeeds. If FRF.9
stac compression fails to negotiate the state after sending a specific number of FRF.9 control messages,
the negotiation stops, and the compression configuration cannot take effect.
Frame relay main interface is of the point-to-multipoint type, but the subinterfaces include the following
types:
• Point-to-point.
Point-to-multipoint.
•
FRF.9 compression configuration varies by the interface type.
For a point-to-point frame relay subinterface, you can use the fr compression frf9 command on the
•
subinterface to enable FRF.9 compression.
For a point-to-multipoint frame relay interface or subinterface, you should configure FRF.9
•
compression by configuring static address mapping. For more information, see the fr map ip
command.
This command applies to only data messages and InARP messages, and does not apply to LMI
messages.
Frame relay compression takes effect only when the frame relay packet type of the interface is IETF. When
this command is configured, the system automatically changes the packet type of the interface into IETF
if the frame relay packet type of an interface is not IETF.
