An error occurred concerning the stereo coder option R&S SMB-B5. Refer to the ser-
vice manual, chapter 3, section "Troubleshooting" for error correction.

9.5 Resolving Network Connection Failures

Several issues may cause failures in the network connection to the instrument. This
section lists the most likely reasons and the recommended solutions.
Common reasons for network connection failures
Network connecting cables and cable connectors of poor quality
Incompatibility between the network interface of the R&S SMB and certain
switches or routers available on the market
An invalid IP address assigned to the instrument

Error
Description
Cannot open file
The selected file can not be opened.
Cannot write file
The file can not be written.
Cannot read file
The file can not be read.
Filename missing
The required operation cannot be
executed because the file name is not
specified.
Invalid filename exten-
The file extension is not valid for the
sion
required operation.
File contains invalid
The selected file contains data that is

not valid for the file type.
The file extension determines the
data that is valid for this file type. If
the file extension is changed the lists
are no longer recognized and the data
are therefore invalid.
Example: the extension of a wave-
form file (= *.wv) was changed to
*.txt
Resolving Network Connection Failures
Remedy
Check the path and file name.
Check if the file is read-only.
Check if the file contents are
compatible with the file type.
A file name has to be entered
when creating a new list.
Check the file extension.
For instance, the file extension
for waveform list files is *.wv. It
is not possible to enter another
file extension when storing a list.
Check the file extension.
