Reverse Shifter/Shift Drum Lock Arm Disassembly/Inspection - Honda GL1800 Service Manual

STARTER/REVERSE SYSTEM
DISASSEMBLY/INSPECTION
Remove the roller pin and reverse shifter assembly
from the shaft.
Check the reverse shifter shaft for wear or damage.
Remove the snap ring and disassemble the shifter
assembly.
Check the shifter gear, needle bearings and shifter
for wear or damage.
Check the drive gear teeth for wear or damage.
Turn the drive gear and check the bearing condition.
The bearing should turn smoothly and quietly.
Also check that the outer race of the bearing fits
tightly in the holder.
Replace the bearing if the drive gear does not turn
smoothly, quietly, or if the outer race fits loosely in
the holder.
Check the reverse shifter shaft bearing for wear or
damage.
Check the shift drum lock arm assembly for distor-
tion, damage or wear.
