The installation position of each main journal bear-

ing cap is identified with a dot mark that is aligned

with the journal number 1, 2, 3 and 4, as viewed

from the front of the engine.

Carefully install the dowel pins and main journal

bearing caps onto the corresponding journals with

the arrow facing toward the upper side of the

Apply engine oil to the bearing cap bolt threads and

seating surfaces.

Install the bolts into the correct bolt holes in the

bearing caps.

Tighten the bolts in a crisscross pattern in several

steps to the specified torque.

TORQUE: 20 N·m (2.0 kgf·m, 14 lbf·ft) + 45°

Remove the bearing caps and measure the com-

pressed plastigauge at its widest point on each

main journal to determine the oil clearance.

SERVICE LIMIT: All journals: 0.06 mm (0.002 in)

If the oil clearance exceeds the service limit, select

the correct replacement bearings.
