IGNITION SYSTEM

IGNITION TIMING

Start the engine, warm it up to normal operating
temperature and stop it.
Remove the left or right cylinder head side cover
(page 3-8)
Remove the timing hole cap (page 3-9).
Connect the timing light to the No. 1 or No. 2 spark

Start the engine, let it idle and check the ignition
operation.

The timing is correct if the F1.2 mark on the ignition
pulse generator rotor aligns with the index mark on
the front crankcase cover.
Connect the timing light to the No. 3 or No. 4 spark
plug wire and check the ignition timing as previ-
ously described by observing the F3.4 mark.
Check the No. 5 or No. 6 cylinder ignition timing in
the same way, using the F5.6 mark.
Remove the timing light and install the following:
– cylinder head side cover (page 3-7)
– timing hole cap (page 3-9)
