Flame Photometric Detector (FPD)

Theory of operation

Dual wavelength FPD

The dual wavelength FPD is a single burner module with two PMT housings,
one with a sulfur filter and the other with a phosphorus filter. Because the
optimum gas flows for these elements are quite different, performance of this
detector is necessarily a compromise.
Two signal channels and two electrometer boards are used, one for each PMT.
The Back Det control table runs the detector, while the Front Det operates in
a special "signal only" mode.

Operating conditions

In order for the FPD to operate properly, the temperature must be set above
120°C, and the air and hydrogen flows must be On.
