Configuration Guide - Reliability
A VRRP backup group is usually associated with a BFD session or an EFM session to rapidly
implement an active/standby link switchover, improving link reliability. VRRP association
cannot be configured in the following scenario described in this example:
l
l
l
In the preceding scenario, the BFD sampling mode and the function to ignore the interface Down
event can help an mVRRP backup group to rapidly perform a master/backup VRRP switchover.
CEs are connected to QinQ termination sub-interfaces of NPEs on the VPLS aggregation
network shown in
On the NPEs, an mVRRP backup group and its service VRRP backup groups are configured
and the mVRRP backup group tracks BFD sessions to rapidly implement a master/backup VRRP
switchover.
The configurations on NPEs are as follows:

Issue 02 (2014-09-30)
In the scenario described in the example, one operator runs the VPLS aggregation network
and the other one runs the access and core networks. A link BFD session cannot be
established between NPE1 and PE1 or between NPE2 and PE2.
On the VPLS aggregation network enabled with split horizon, PWs are established between
PE1 and PE3 and between PE2 and PE3 and they cannot transmit traffic between NPE1
and NPE2. As a result, an mVRRP backup group or a peer BFD session cannot be
established between NPE1 and NPE2.
Two NPEs are directly connected.
NOTE
l
Each NPE enabled with BFD sampling establishes a link BFD session with each CE.
l
In an mVRRP backup group enabled with the function to ignore the interface Down event, a VRRP-
enabled interface can directly change its VRRP status to Master but not Initialize if the directly
connected VRRP-enabled interface goes Down.
Figure
4-21.
An Eth-Trunk link, an mVRRP backup group, and a peer BFD session are established
between NPE1 and NPE2.
Service VRRP backup groups are established on interfaces connecting NPE1 and NPE2 to
the VPLS aggregation network.
A link BFD session is established between each NPE and each CE. The mVRRP backup
group tracks each link BFD session. The mVRRP backup group can rapidly perform a
master/backup VRRP switchover if two or more link BFD sessions go Down.
