Usage Scenario
Bidirectional Forwarding Detection (BFD) can
rapidly detect link faults. VRRP can be associated
with BFD. If a link fault occurs, a BFD session
detects the fault, changes the BFD session status, and
notifies the VRRP backup group of the fault. This
process triggers a rapid master/backup VRRP
switchover.
If a device does not support BFD, Ethernet in the
First Mile (EFM) can be used to rapidly detect link
faults. VRRP can be associated with EFM to track
the EFM session status. This allows a rapid master/
backup VRRP switchover if a link fails.
A VRRP backup group can be associated with a
Service Processing Unit (SPU) group. VRRP
priorities are set based on the SPU group status. If
the SPU status changes, a master/backup VRRP
switchover is triggered.
A VRRP backup group can be associated with a
specified route. VRRP-enabled interfaces can
remove the network and host routes for the previous
active link after a master/backup VRRP switchover
is complete. This prevents network-to-user traffic
from following the unreachable route or traveling
through a failed link.
A VRRP backup group can be associated with a
unidirectional Network Quality Analysis (NQA) test
instance, monitoring a link connected to a network.
If the uplink fails, the NQA module instructs the
VRRP module to reduce the VRRP priority by a
specified value, implementing a master/backup
VRRP switchover.
If a device in a VRRP backup group is not in the
master state, manually set the cost of the direct route
on this device, allowing all traffic to travel through
the specified active link.
