MAINTENANCE
SIDE STAND
Support the motorcycle on
a
level
surface.
Check
the side stand spring for damage or
loss
of
tens
ion .
Check the side stand assembly
f
o r f
reedom
of move-
me
nt
and
lubri
cate
the
side
stand pivot if
necessary.
Check the
sid
e
st and ignition cut -off sy st em:
-
Sit
astrid e
the
m
oto rcycle and
raise
the side stand.
-
Start
the engine
with t
he
transmission
in neutra
l,
then
shift
the transmi
ssion
into gear, with the clutch
lever squ
eezed.
-
Move the
side
stand full
down.
- The eng
ine
sho
uld
stop as the
side
stand
is
lowered.
If th
ere
is a problem with t
he
system
,
check the side
stand
switc h
(sect
ion
19).

Loose, worn or

FRONT SUSPENSION
INSPECTION
Check the
action
of t
he
forks
by compressing the f
ro nt
suspension
several
times.
Check t
he
entire
fork assembly for signs of
leaks
,
da
m age
or loose fa
steners.
Replace da
maged
compo
nen ts
that
cannot
be
repaired.
Tighten all nuts and bolts (page 1-13)
.
Ref er to
section
13 for fo

service.
REAR
SUSPENSION INSPECTION
Check the action of the
shock
absorber by com
press-
ing it seve
ral
times.
Chec k
the
entire shock absorber assembly
for
sig ns
of
leaks,
damage or loose fasteners
.
Rep
lace
damaged compone
nt s that
ca
nno t
be
repa
ired.
Tighten all nuts and bolts (page
1-13).
Place
the
motorcycle
on a
w
o rk stand or box to raise
the rear wh
eel o
ff the ground and support the motor-
cycl e securely.
Check
for worn
swingarm
bearings by
grabbing
the swingarm and attempting to move the
whee
l side
to side. Replace the
bearings
if
any
loose-
ness is n
oted.
