BATTERY CHARGING
Remove the battery (page
17-41.

NOTICE
I
Make sure the area around the charger
is
well
ven-
ti/ated, clear of flammable materials, and free from
heat,
humidity,
water and dust.
Clean the battery terminals and position the battery as
far away from the charger as the leads will permit.
Do not place batteries belo
w
the charger
-
gases
from the battery may corrode and damage the
cha
rger.
Do not place batteries on top of the
charger.
Be sure
the air vents are not blocked.
BATTERY/CHARGING SYSTEM
1.
Turn the "
POW ER"
switch to
"
OFF" .
2.
Set the "
BATT ERY A
MP.
HR.
SELECTOR SWI
TCH"
for the
size
of the
battery being
charged.
Turn the po
wer
ON/OFF
at the
charger,
not at the
battery terminals.

Set the appro
priate
amp
.
hour rating.
Connecting the
cables
with the
POWER switch
turned to "O
N "
can produce a
spark
which could
ignite or
explode
the
battery.
The
charger
will
automatically
sw itch to the
"Trickle" mode
aft
er
the set
charging
time has
elapsed.
3.
Set the
"TIM ER"
to the
position
indi cat ed by the
Honda Battery Tester;
RED-3,
RED-2 or
YELLOW
1. If
you are charging a new battery, set the
switch
to the
NEW BATT
position.
4.
Attach the clamps to the battery terminals: red to
positive, black
to negat
ive.
Connect
the
battery
cables only
w
hen the
"POWER "
sw itch
is
turn
ed to "O
FF".
5.
Turn the "
POW ER" switch
to "ON"
.
6.
When the
timer
reaches the
"Trickle" position,
the
charg
ing cycle
is complete
.
Turn
the "POWER"
switch to "O
FF"
and
disconnect
the clamps.
7.
Let the battery cool for at least 10 m
inutes
or until
gassing
subsides
after charging.
8.
Retest the battery using the Honda battery tester
and
recharge
if necessary using the above
steps.
