• This section covers crankcase separation for service of the crankshaft and piston.
• The following parts must be rem oved before separating the crankcase.
- Altemator/flywheel (Sect io n 101
- Clutch/gearshift linkage (Sect io n 9)
- Cylinder head (Se ction 81
- Engine (Section 6)
- Oil pump (Section 4)
Mark and store the disassembl ed parts t o ensure that they are installed in their original locations.
• Mark and sto re the bearing inserts to ensure that the parts are installed in the correct locations during reassembly. If the
inserts are improperly installed, they will block the oil hole, causing insufficient lubrication and eventual engine seizure.
The connecting rod bearing inserts are select fi t and are identified by color codes. Select replacement bearings from
the code tables. After ins ta lling new bearings, recheck them with a plastigauge to verify clearance. Apply molybdenum
disulfide oil to the crank pin du ring assembl y.
