CRANKCASE/PISTON/CYLINDER
PISTON/CO NNECTING
ROD
Be careful not to
damage the
crankpin, main
journal and
beer-
Ing inserts.
Do not damage
the piston ring by
spreading the
ends
too
far.
Clean
carbon
deposits from the
ring grooves
with
a ring that will be
discarded. Ne
ver
use a
w
ire br
ush;
it
wi!! scratch the
groo
ve.

PISTON
/CONNECTING
ROD REMOVAL
Mark the bearing caps and bearings as you remove
them to indicate the correct cylinder for reassembly.
Remove the connect
ing
rod bearing cap nuts and
bearing caps.
Tap the side of the cap lightly if the bearing cap is
ha
rd
to remove.
Remove the
crankshaft .
Remove the piston/connecti ng rod assembly from the
top of the cylinder.
PISTON REMOVAL
Remove the piston pin clip with pliers
.
Push the piston pin out of the piston and connecting
rod, and remove the
piston.
PISTO N DISASSEMBLY
Spread each piston ring
and
remove it by lifting up at
a
point opposite the
gap.
Remove any carbon deposits from the pisto
n
ring
groo
ves .
