ELECTRIC STARTER
STARTE R M OTOR
With the ignition
switch rumed to
uOFFN. remove
the negative cable
at the battery
before servicing
the staner motor.
Record the toes-
tion and number
of shims.

REMOVAL
Rem o v e the air cleaner housing (pag e 5·53).
With the ignition switch OFF, remove the negative
cable at the battery before servicing the starter motor.
Remove the nut and the starter m otor cable from the
starte r motor.
Remove the starter motor mounting bolts and g round
cab le.
Pull the starte r m ot or out of th e cra nkcase.
DISASSEMBLY

- St art er motor case bo lts
- Rear cover
- Front cover
- Seal ring
- Lock washe r
- Insulated washe r
- Shims
- A rmatu re
