While the animal is drinking, use a piece of paper to clean the screw hole.
Step 3 – Researcher B.
After cleaning the hole, it will be possible to see the orientation of the screw. This
will help you estimate the portion of turn that has been applied. Every full
counterclockwise turn corresponds to moving the electrode 0.250 mm deeper.
Therefore a half or 180 degree counterclockwise turn will advance the electrodes
0.125 mm. Hold the microdrive steady with one hand and use the other to turn the
screw using a precision screwdriver. Observe the new orientation of the screw to
evaluate the movement; you may wish to record this information.
