At the end of Step 3, the skull should match the image below:
Step 4 – Prepare the surface. 
Carefully cut and remove dura mater over the craniotomy. The remaining pia mater,
even though it is usually considered not to be resistant to penetration, nevertheless
presents a challenge to the entry of the microelectrode arrays. This resistance leads
to deforming (dimpling) of the brain at the moment of penetration.
To minimize brain dimpling, apply cyanoacrylate adhesive directly to the pia surface
bordering the edge of the cranial opening. This procedure fastens the top layer of
the brain, the pia mater, to the overlying bone and the resulting surface tension
prevents the brain from depressing under the advancing electrodes.
Before applying cyanoacrylate adhesive, apply a drop of petroleum based antibiotic
directly on the center of the craniotomy to the exact site of electrode implantation.
