This is crucial as it prevents the cyanoacrylate adhesive from spreading into the
penetration site and it limits the adhesive to the edges of the craniotomy.
Step 5 – Prepare the microdrive.
Ensure your microdrive is in the upper (fully retracted) position by turning the set
screw clockwise, then fasten it to the "surgery cup" and install it on the
micromanipulator on the stereotactic table. Connect the ZIF-Clip® headstage to record
during the surgery.
Step 6 – Insert the electrodes.
Drive the electrodes into the brain using the micromanipulator, not the microdrive
screw. This will allow the maximum displacement possible in the brain and better
freedom of movement. Once penetrated ~100 microns, retract 50 microns to help
prevent dimpling.
