cover (cement only) at rear quarter window. When
operation is completed, fabric cover should be
free of all wrinkles and draws in this area.
10. Repeat step 9 at left rear quarter area.
11. Cement fabric cover at lower portion of
back window. Be certain fabric cover is free of
all wrinkles and draws in this area.
12. Check fabric cover center to side section
seams. Seams should be straight. Where neces-
sary, adjust cover along side roof rails.
13. After all wrinkles have been removed from
cover, install drive nails across windshield open-
ing. On 6039 style, cement fabric cover to wind-
shield pillar.
NOTE: When installing drive nails at wind-
shield and back window opening, strike only
hard enough to seat them. Undue pounding in
these areas may damage cover or windshield
opening.
14. Install drive nails in back window opening,
Fig. 16-20.
15. Where required, adjust fabric cover in rear
quarter area; then install screws or drive nails
along lower end of fabric cover, Fig. 16-20.
16. Install cover into roof drip moldings. Be
sure center to side section seams are straight
after cover has been installed.
NOTE: When installing fabric cover to in-
side of drip molding, a small thin-edged piece
of plastic or similar material can be used to
insert cover in place inside drip rails. Exer-
cise care so damage will not occur to cover
when performing this operation.
17. Trim off excess material at windshield,
back window, rear quarters, and along roof drip
moldings. A in Fig. 16-20 shows where trimmed
edge should occur in openings.
NOTE: Using fabric cover trimming tool,
J-21092, or suitable small knife, trim fabric
cover just under lip of roof drip molding, C in
Fig. 16-20.
18. On 6039 style, spread flexible retainer to
insure tight fit in drip molding.
19. On 6039 style, install flexible retainer
starting at radius area above rear quarter win-
dow. Working toward rear of body, carefully drive
retainer downward with blunt-edged tool. Working
toward front of body, install remaining portion of
retainer. Retainer fingers should be seated under
flange of drip molding.
20. Install all previously removed moldings and
assemblies.
NOTE: If, after cover installation is com-
pleted, minor creases or fold marks are still
visible, they may be removed by applying heat
to area affected. Care must be exercised so
that material is not over-heated as loss of de-
sign pattern embossed in cover will result.
Normally creases or fold marks will gradually
disappear after cover assembly has been ex-
posed to elements.
