When replacing contact set assembly, add a
small amount of cam and bearing lubricant to the
breaker cam.
20. Distributor Test Information
For service departments equipped with dis-
tributor testing machines, the information on 1963
service distributors is furnished below:

NOTE: Vacuum advance starts at 8 inches
to 10 inches mercury. Maximum vacuum dis-
tributor advance is 11.25° to 13.25° at 15.25
inches of mercury.
If tests indicate an improperly operating mech-
anism, disassemble the distributor as described
in Note 21. Reassemble the distributor as de-
scribed in Note 22.
21. Distributor Removal and
Disassembly
a. Removal
1. Remove distributor cap as shown in Fig. 12-
17, and position out of way.
2. Disconnect distributor primary wire from
coil.
3. Disconnect vacuum advance pipe hose from
vacuum advance unit on distributor.
4. Crank engine until copper contact on top
of rotor points directly to No. 1 spark plug.
5. Remove distributor hold down nut and clamp.
6. Lift distributor from engine and discard
gasket.
NOTE: The
distributor
rotor
will
turn
slightly counterclockwise as drive gear becomes
disengaged from teeth of camshaft gear. When
re-installing distributor rotor should be turned
slightly counterclockwise from position of di-
rectly to No. 1 spark plug to insure proper en-
gagement. When properly re-installed, contact
on rotor should point directly to No. 1 spark
Plug.
b. Disassembly (Fig. 12-20)
1. Remove rotor from end of distributor shaft
by removing two attaching screws and lock
washers.
2. Remove two weight springs and both advance
weights.
3. Remove pin from gear by driving out with
drift punch and hammer.
CAUTION: Distributor gear should be sup-
ported in such a way that no damage will occur
to distributor shaft when driving pin out.

4. Slide gear off shaft. Remove any burrs that
may have been caused by removal of pin.
5. Pull shaft with cam weight base assembly
from housing.
6. Remove contact point assembly and discon-
nect primary and condenser lead clips.
