6. If adjustment is correct, turn off headlights
and disconnect Tester.
7. Remove Tester lamp from phototube unit.
107. Amplifier Unit
Removal and Installation
The amplifier unit is accessible through the
glove box.
a. Removal
1. Disconnect negative cable from battery.
2. Disconnect phototube plug from socket on
amplifier unit.
3. Remove steering column lower cover as
described in Section 15, Note 2a.
4. Disconnect two-way electrical plug at power
relay unit.
5. Disconnect three-way electrical plug and
red wire at foot switch.
6. Remove amplifier harness from clip on ver-
tical brace, three clips on lower panel ledge, two
clips on emergency brake bracket and from clip
on left lower cowl panel.
7. Remove two screws holding amplifier to
instrument panel and one screw to front mounting
bracket and remove amplifier feeding harness
through glove box.
b. Installation
1. Position amplifier against instrument panel
securing with two screws and feed harness cross
car through glove box.
2. Install screw securing amplifier to front
mounting bracket.
3. Insert amplifier harness behind clip on ver-
tical brace, three clips on lower panel ledge, two
clips on emergency brake bracket and clip on left
lower cowl panel.
4. Connect two-way electrical plug to power
relay unit.
5. Attach three-way electrical plug and red
wire to foot switch.
6. Connect phototube plug to socket on amplifier
unit.
7. Attach negative cable to battery.
8. Check and, if necessary, adjust DIM and
HOLD sensitivity, Notes 105 and 106.
9. Install steering column lower cover as de-
scribed in Section 15, Note 2b.
108. Amplifier Unit
Disassembly and Assembly
a. Disassembly
1. Remove amplifier unit as d e s c r i b e d in
Note 107a.
2. Remove two screws holding combination bot-
tom cover and mounting plate to cover strap and
remove combination plate.
3. Remove two screws securing socket as-
sembly to cover strap.
4. Remove two screws holding circuit board to
cover strap and remove cover strap.
b. Assembly
1. Position circuit board in cover strap and
secure with two screws.
2. Place socket assembly in position and install
two screws securing assembly to cover strap.
3. Position combination bottom and mounting
plate to cover strap and secure with two screws.
4. Install amplifier unit as d e s c r i b e d in
Note 107b.
109. Amplifier Tube Replacement
When replacing amplifier tube, use only a 12K5
tube designed for use in the Guide-Matic unit, as
not all 12K5 tubes have the same v o l t a g e
requirements.
a. Removal
1. Remove a m p l i f i e r unit as described in
Note 107a.
2. Remove amplifier and/or ballast tube by
lifting up and pulling outward on top of tube.
b. Installation
1. Position tube prongs in tube socket and push
tube downward and inward.
2. Install amplifier unit as d e s c r i b e d in
Note 107b.
