4. Pull armature out of end cover, being care-
ful not to lose steel thrust ball in end of shaft, and
install Brush Spring Retainer, J-7890, to hold
brushes in position as shown in Fig. 12-77.
NOTE: Make certain that felt washer and
steel thrust plate remain in base of end cover.
5. If the field assembly is to be replaced, cut
the black and yellow leads in a location convenient
for splicing.

6. Cut internal field lead enclosed in black
tubing at a point approximately two inches from
brush holder.
7. Remove field coils by grasping one end and
rotating it over pole shoe retaining flange. Follow
same procedure for remaining three sides of two
field coils.
8. Remove pole shoe from housing by using
Field Coil Puller, J-7844, as shown in Fig. 12-78.
NOTE: Be certain that tool base is installed
with flat side up and that puller flanges straddle
sides of shoes.
b. Gear Box Disassembly
(60 and 62 Series)
1. Remove four screws retaining washer unit to
gear box and separate washer unit from wiper
unit.
2. Remove screw that secures resistor, Fig.
12-73.
3. Unsolder three leads attached to terminal
board if board is defective.
4. Disconnect latch spring and remove " E "
ring retainer, washer and spacer.
5. Lift latch and follower off pivot pin and relay
armature.
