6. Adjust bowden cables as described in Section
13, Note 1.
7. Install steering column lower cover as de-
scribed in Note 2b.
8. Install upper instrument panel cover as de-
scribed in Note lb.
15. Heater—Air Conditioner Control
Assembly Removal and Installation
a. Removal
1. Disconnect air conditioner left outlet hose
under instrument panel and move to one side.
2. Remove heater-air conditioner control as-
sembly as described in Note 14a for the heater-
ventilation control assembly.
b. Installation
1. Install heater-air conditioner control as-
sembly as described in Note 14b for the heater-
ventilation control assembly.
2. Connect air conditioner left outlet hose under
instrument panel.
16. Guide-Matic Phototube Unit
Removal and Installation
a. Removal
1. Disconnect negative battery cable at battery.
2. Remove five screws retaining upper instru-
ment panel cover to lower panel, and raise upper
panel cover high enough to disconnect 3-way sock-
et type electric connector for Guide-Matic photo-
tube unit.
3. Remove Phillips head pivot pin from right
side of phototube unit base, then lift unit off base
and remove phototube unit and harness, Fig. 15-8.
b. Installation
1. Insert connector end of phototube harness
through phototube base and connect it to ampli-
fier harness.
2. Position phototube unit on base and secure
with Phillips head pivot pin.
3. Install five screws securing upper instrument
panel cover to lower panel.
4. Connect negative battery cable at battery.

5. Check vertical aim, and DIM and HOLD sen-
sitivity adjustments as described in Section 12,
Notes 104 and 106. Adjust if necessary.
17. Glove Box Assembly
Removal and Installation
a. Removal
1. Open glove box door and remove seven Phil-
lips head screws at bottom front of glove box.
Remove glove box assembly.
b. Installation
1. Position glove box assembly in instrument
panel and loosely install seven Phillips head
screws.
2. Align glove box front panel in opening and
tighten screws.
18. Ash Tray Assembly
Removal and Installation
a. Removal—Left Hand Ash Tray
1. Remove steering column lower cover as
described in Note 2a.
2. Lift up tang on right side of retainer as-
sembly tunnel and remove ash tray assembly.
b. Installation—Left Hand Ash Tray
1. Slide ash tray assembly into retainer until
tang engages and secures ash tray in position.
2. Install steering column lower cover as de-
scribed in Note 2b.
