AIR CONDITIONER DIAGNOSIS CHART (Cont'd.)
Condition
Insufficient cooling - Air from
Air Conditioner outlets is not
cold.
Possible Cause
No refrigerant in system.
System low on refrigerant.
Compressor inoperative. No
voltage at clutch coil.
Compressor clutch slipping.
Compressor belt slipping.
Suction throttling valve incor-
rectly a d j u s t e d
- controls
evaporator p r e s s u r e higher
than 30 psi at maximum cool-
ing setting.
No vacuum to suction throttling
valve on 60 and 62 series
cars - evaporator p r e s s u r e
higher than 30 psi at maximum
cooling setting.
Suction throttling valve incor-
rectly a d j u s t e d
- controls
evaporator p r e s s u r e lower
than 30 psi at maximum cool-
ing setting resulting in icing
of evaporator and loss of cool-
ing air flow.
Suction throttling valve stuck
in wide open position - evapo-
rator pressure pulls down be-
low 30 psi resulting in icing of
evaporator and loss of cooling
air flow.
Suction throttling valve stuck
in closed position - evaporator
pressure will not pull down to
30 psi.
Expansion valve thermal bulb
and c a p i l l a r y discharged -
causing valve to close tight.
Remedy
Leak test, repair and recharge
system.
Check for leak, repair and add
refrigerant.
Find cause of no voltage and
correct.
Replace clutch plate and hub
assembly.
Tighten belt or eliminate cause
of belt slippage.
Adjust suction throttling valve.
Check vacuum c i r c u i t for
pinched, damaged, or discon-
nected hoses.
Check operation of vacuum
check valve and vacuum con-
trol switch. Replace if nec-
essary.
Replace vacuum power unit.
Adjust suction throttling valve.
Adjust suction throttling valve.
If valve does not respond to
adjustment, repair or if nec-
essary replace.
Repair or r e p l a c e suction
throttling valve.
Replace expansion valve.
