5. Remove stop assembly retaining screw and
move stop assembly aside.
6. Remove two screws that secure relay con-
trol to housing and remove relay after unsoldering
relay leads.
7. Remove crank arm retaining nut, Fig. 12-79.
8. Remove rubber seal and snap ring, using
Snap Ring Pliers, J-4880.
9. Remove end-play washers, shield, arjd spacer
washer.
NOTE: The number of end-play washers
may vary in different wiper assemblies due to
end-play requirements.
10. Remove gear mechanism from gear box and
slide spacer washer off gear assembly eccentric
shaft.
11. Slide drive plate and shaft assembly out of
gear assembly, separating lock and drive pawls,
and large coil spring.
e. Gear Box Assembly
(75 and Commercial Chassis)
1. With drive shaft up, position lock and drive
pawls with pins up in their respective holes in
shaft and drive plate.
2. Position drive gear and eccentric shaft over
lock and drive pawl assembly.
3. Connect large coil spring between the lock
and drive pawls, Fig. 12-74.
4. Install spacer washer on eccentric shaft.
5. Install gear mechanism in housing.
6. Install spacer washer, s h i e l d , end-play
washers and snap ring, on shaft, using Snap Ring
Pliers, J-4880.
NOTE: To determine if end-play is correct,
place two .005 inch feeler gages, one on each
side of the shaft, between snap ring and spacers.
Add or remove end-play washers as required
to obtain a snug .005 inch clearance.
7. Pack rubber boot with waterproof type
grease. Install rubber boot and crank arm, se-
curing crank arm with nut. Tighten securely.
NOTE: Rubber seal should fit over shield,
and there is a place in the rubber seal to ac-
commodate the small tang on the shield.
8. Position relay control assembly in housing,
splice and solder wires. Secure relay to housing
with two screws.
9. Install stop assembly retaining screw.
10. Install " E " ring washer and spacer on pivot
pin of stop assembly.
11. Install latch and follower assembly on pivot
pin and position moveable arm o v e r relay arm
tab.
12. Secure latch and follower assembly to pivot
pin with " E " ring retainer, and connect small
coil spring with large hook end in latch and
follower.
13. Solder leads to terminal board if board was
removed.
14. Lubricate each pivot point of latching mech-
anism with one drop of light oil.
NOTE: Do not use grease because a bind
may result in cold weather.
f. Motor Assembly (All Series)
1. Shorten and splice yellow and black replace-
ment f i e l d l e a d s to the leads cut d u r i n g
disassembly.
2. Solder and tape leads to complete the splice.
3. Align pole shoes and housing according to
through bolt grooves on inside diameter of pole
shoes. Tap pole shoes with a plastic hammer until
shoes bottom against machined ridge of housing.
4. Install field coils by grasping one end and
rotating it over the pole shoe retaining flange.
Follow the same procedure for remaining three
sides of two field coils.
NOTE: If the field coil or pole shoes were
defective, replacement field coil and pole shoes
are already assembled.
5. Lubricate ends of armature shaft and steel
thrust ball and install armature in end cover,
Fig. 12-80.
NOTE: Make certain that thrust plate and
felt washer are correctly positioned in end
cover and be careful not to lose steel thrust
ball from commutator end of armature shaft.
6. Remove Brush Retainer, J-7890.
7. With armature positioned in end cover, in-
sert worm shaft through field and housing bearing
until it meshes with nylon gear.
NOTE: It may be necessary to rotate ar-
mature slightly to engage worm with gear.
8. Slowly rotate end cover as required to align
through bolt holes in motor cover with those in
