c. Bowl Cover Removal
1. Remove fuel inlet nut, screen and gasket,
Fig. 10-12.
2. Remove intermediate choke rod from choke
shaft lever by removing small hairpin clip at top
of rod. Rotate rod to disengage from intermediate
choke shaft lever, Fig. 10-10.
3. Disconnect accelerator pump rod from ac-
celerator pump lever by removing clip at top of
rod, Fig. 10-11.
4. Remove large clip from accelerator pump
lever.
5. Remove clip at accelerator pump shaft. Re-
move accelerator pump lever from bowl cover
boss.
6. Remove choke counterweight lever and trip
lever with retaining screw from choke shaft,
Fig. 10-11.
7. Remove 13 bowl cover attaching screws with
lock washers and triangular identification tag. One
of the inner bowl cover screws is located in a
counterbore just inside the edge of the air horn.
On cars equipped with idle speed-up control, three
screws have been removed previously, as well
as the idle speed-up control.
8. Break bowl cover loose from bowl using
finger pressure only. Do not attempt to pry
cover loose. If it sticks, tap gently with a plastic
hammer.
9. Lift bowl cover assembly straight up and
out of the bowl by gripping air horn section. Be
careful not to bend float assemblies.
d. Bowl Cover Disassembly
NOTE: Keep parts from primary side sepa-
rate from those of secondary side.
1. With bowl cover inverted, remove float hinge
pins, floats, and needles. Remove needles with
their clips from their floats, Fig. 10-12.
2. Remove and discard bowl cover gasket.
3. If necessary, remove vacuum power piston
from bowl cover by depressing plunger and allow-
ing it to snap back several times. It may be
necessary to remove burrs around power piston
bore caused by staking. Remove spring under
piston. Be careful not to damage vacuum assist
spring and cup retainer on power piston stem.
4. Remove accelerator pump by pulling plunger
with rubber boot upward and out of bowl cover.
NOTE: Inspect accelerator pump to deter-
mine if vent check ball is free in bore. If stuck,
replace accelerator pump assembly.
5. Remove primary and secondary needle seats
and gaskets, using a large screwdriver. Remove
screen from primary and secondary sides, Fig.
10-12. It is not necessary to remove float balance
spring or secondary side.
NOTE: If needle valves and seats are to be
reused, it is particularly important to keep
needle valves mated with their corresponding
seats.
e» Choke Disassembly
1. Remove three choke coil cover screws and
retainers, and remove cover. Do not remove
thermostatic coil from shaft in cover, as they
are matched and come as a complete assembly,
Fig. 10-13.
