7. Loosen four cap screws that hold rocker arm
assembly to cylinder head and remove rocker arm
assembly with screws attached.
NOTE: If working on right side of car equip-
ped with Air Conditioner, remove the mounting
screws that hold Air Conditioner blower motor
and inlet assembly to cowl, and position as-
sembly away from engine so that right rocker
arm assembly can be removed without any
interference.
8. If in doubt as to which valve stem O-ring
seal is leaking, place a 1 inch diameter suction
cup above each inlet and exhaust valve spring re-
tainer in turn, Fig. 9-14.
9. Compress suction cup to create a vacuum
that will secure cup to top of valve spring re-
tainer. If suction cup will not stick, a leaking
stem seal is indicated, because air is entering
the area below suction cup.
10. Remove spark plug at affected cylinder, in-
stall Adapter, J-9388 in spark plug port, and fill
cylinder with air to hold valve up and seated when
spring is being compressed, as shown in Fig.
9-15.
CAUTION: Keep hands away from fan blade
until air pressure is established within the cy-
linder because, when air is applied, the crank-
shaft will turn quickly until the piston reaches
bottom dead center position.
11. Reinstall rocker arm cap screw nearest to
affected valve, position end of Valve Spring Com-
pressor, J-5892-1, under head of cap screw, and
