10. Install front radio speaker as described
in Note 7b.
11. Install steering column lower cover as
described in Note 2b.
12. Install upper instrument panel cover as
described in Note lb.
5. Fuel or Temperature Gage
Removal and Installation
a. Removal
1. Remove upper instrument panel cover as de-
scribed in Note la.
2. Scribe front radio speaker position on both
sides at mounting support and remove four nuts
and lock washers that retain speaker. Move
speaker to one side.
3. Disconnect wire terminal and bulb retainer
assembly, Fig. 15-3.
4. Remove radio dial light.
5. Remove four screws retaining gages to in-
strument panel cluster assembly and remove
gage and mounting plate.
6. Remove two nuts retaining gage to mounting
plate and remove gage.
b. Installation
1. Install two nuts retaining gage to mounting
plate.
2. Attach gages and mounting plate to instru-
ment panel cluster assembly with four screws.
3. Install radio dial light.
4. Connect wire terminal and bulb retainer
assembly, Fig. 15-3.
5. Install and align front radio speaker to
scribed lines on each side, and secure with four
nuts and washers.
6. Install upper instrument panel cover as de-
scribed in Note lb.
6. Radio Receiver Unit
Removal and Installation
a. Removal
1. Disconnect negative battery cable at battery.
2. Remove steering column lower cover, see
Note 2a.
3. Remove radio knobs, springs, and rings,
using an Allen wrench to remove screw.
4. Using
Radio Control Knob Nut Wrench,
J-6968, remove retaining nuts on both control
shafts, Fig. 15-2.
5. Disconnect antenna lead-in carble and 4-way
electrical connector.
6. Disconnect foot control unit from bottom of
A-M radio, if so equipped.
7. Remove seven Phillips head screws at bot-
tom front of glove box and remove glove box
assembly.
8. Remove screw and washer securing radio to
rear support bracket through the glove box.
9. Remove air conditioner center flange and
duct boot if so equipped.
10. Lower radio, disconnect dial light and re-
move radio.
b. Installation
1. Connect dial light and position radio into
instrument panel, being careful not to damage the
control ferrule threads.
2. Loosely install radio control knob retaining
nuts to hold radio into position.
3. Install washer and screw through bracket at
rear of radio.
4. Align radio and tighten retaining nuts on
radio control knobs, using Tool, J-6968, Fig. 15-2.
5. Connect antenna lead-in cable and 4-way
electrical connector.
6. Connect foot control unit at bottom of radio,
if so equipped.
7. Install rings, springs and control knobs. The
manual selector knob (right hand) should be in-
stalled so that it protrudes, allowing for antenna
operation.
8. Install and align glove box assembly. Tighten
seven Phillips screws holding glove box into
position.
9. Install air conditioner center flange and duct
boot if so equipped.
10. Install steering column lower cover, see
Note 2b.
11. Connect negative battery cable at battery.
