HEATING AND AIR CONDITIONING
8. Heater Assembly—Front
Removal and Installation
(Air Conditioned—75 Series Cars)
a. Removal
1. Drain cooling system.
2. Disconnect heater water hoses from fittings
on heater assembly.
3. Remove upper instrument panel cover as de-
scribed in Section 15, Note la.
4. Disconnect bowden cables from selector
(upper) and temperature (lower) control levers
and mark cables for correct installation.
5. Disconnect defroster hoses from top of
heater assembly.
6. Remove right cowl kick pad and remove Air
Conditioner outlet duct and evaporator adapter
under right side of instrument panel.
7. Remove screws and nuts securing blower and
inlet assembly to cowl.
8. Disconnect electrical connectors from blow-
er resistor.
9. Loosen clamp that holds rubber boot to blow-
er housing and disconnect boot.
10. Pull blower and inlet assembly away from
cowl and off heater mounting studs, and remove
spring retainer nuts from studs.
11. Pull front edge of carpet away from bottom
of heater assembly and remove assembly and rub-
ber gasket.
b. Installation
1. Position rubber gasket on heater assembly
and position assembly against cowl with studs in
proper holes and install spring retainer nuts on
heater mounting studs.
NOTE: Make sure bowden cables are not
tangled.
2. Position blower and inlet assembly on cowl,
aligning holes in case with studs on heater unit.
Install screws and nuts securing unit to cowl.
3. Connect rubber boot to blower housing and
install clamp.
4. Connect
electrical connectors to blower
resistor.
5. Install Air Conditioner outlet duct and evapo-
rator adapter and straighten carpet. Install cowl
kick pad.
6. Connect defroster hoses to top of heater
assembly.
7. Connect bowden cables to selector and
temperature control levers and adjust cables as
described in Note 1.
8. Install upper instrument panel cover as de-
scribed in Section 15, Note lb.
9. Connect heater water hoses to pipes on
heater assembly.
10. Fill cooling system.
9. Heater Core
Removal and Installation
(60 and 62 Series)
a. Removal
1. Remove heater assembly as described in
Note 6a or Note 55a.
2. Remove four screws securing wire retaining
clamps to heater assembly.
3. Slide heater core toward defroster outlets
and lift out of heater assembly.
4. Remove retaining clamps from heater core
ends.
b. Installation
1. Install retaining clamps on heater core ends.
2. Place heater core in heater assembly and
position core so that screw holes through retain-
ing clamps align with screw holes in assembly.
3. Install
four
screws
securing
retaining
clamps to heater assembly.
4. Install heater assembly as described in Note
6b or Note 55b.
10. Heater Core and Water Control
Valve Removal and Installation
(75 Series)
a. Removal
1. Remove heater assembly as described in
Note 7a or 8a.
2. Remove 8 screws retaining core frame to
heater case and remove frame.
3. Remove large air seal gasket from heater
core mounting plate.
