2. Check to see that wiper unit ground strap is
securely connected under wiper unit-to-cowl at-
taching screw.
3. With ignition switch turned on, check for 12
volts at center (No. 2 brown lead) terminal of
wiper unit terminal board, and at brown lead ter-
minal that connects to washer pump. See Fig. 12-
82 for 60 and 62 series and Fig. 12-83 for 75 and
commercial chassis.
b. Dash Switch
1. Check dash switch mounting. Loose mounting
can cause an intermittent operating condition
when using wiper.
2. To determine if dash switch or wiper is de-
fective, try operating wiper independently of dash
switch as follows:
a. Connect 12 volt supply to center No. 2
(brown) terminal of wiper terminal board and con-
nect a jumper wire from terminal No. 1 (white) to
ground.
Wiper should operate in " H i " speed.

b. To check low speed operation, connect a
jumper wire from terminal No. 3 (black) to
ground.
c. To shut wiper off, leave jumper from ter-
minal No. 3 connected to ground and disconnect
jumper from terminal No. 1.
NOTE:
Wiper must operate in " L o " speed
to park or shut off correctly.
3. To determine if washer pump unit or washer
button switch is defective, operate washer pump
independently of washer switch as follows:
a. Operate wiper unit as described above.
b. Connect 12 volts to either washer pump ter-
minal and momentarily ground other terminal with
jumper wire. This will allow washer to operate
through one cycle.
c. Wiper Linkage
1. Remove necessary body parts to gain access
to transmission link rods.
2. Disconnect transmission link rods and manu-
ally operate each wiper transmission to locate
either a binding linkage or defective transmission.

Checking Procedures (On Bench,
All Series)
a. Relay Control—Latch Mechanism
1. Remove washer pump assembly from wiper
unit to gain access to relay control and latching
mechanism.
NOTE:
On 75 series reconnect ground strap
to wiper housing when making bench checks.
2. Disconnect yellow wire from relay control
switch to prevent motor from running while check-
ing.
3. Manually operate relay armature to check
that latch arm and attaching parts move freely.
4. Check circuit to relay coil by connecting a
12-volt supply to wiper as follows:
a. Connect positive lead to center No. 2 ter-
minal and negative lead to housing.
b. Check for 12 volts at relay switch terminal
to which green wire is attached. No voltage in-
dicates an open circuit breaker or a broken brown
or green wire.
