6. Heater Assembly Removal and
Installation (60 and 62 Series)
The following procedure pertains to non-Air
Conditioned cars only. The procedure for remov-
ing and installing the Heater-Air Conditioner as-
sembly is described in Note 55.
a. Removal
1. Drain cooling system.
2. Remove glove box assembly from instrument
panel as described in Section 15, Note 17a.
3. Disconnect electrical connectors from re-
sistor panel on the top right side of heater
assembly.
4. Disconnect bowden cables to defroster valve
and to temperature valve at pivot points on heater
assembly.
5. Disconnect defroster hoses from top of
heater assembly.
6. Remove right and left cowl kick pads and pull
front edge of carpet away from front floor duct.
7. Remove two screws securing floor duct con-
nector from floor duct.
8. Remove heater hoses from fittings on heater
assembly, leaving clamps on fittings.
9. Remove heater blower and inlet assembly as
described in Note 3a.
10. Remove two spring retainer nuts from
heater mounting studs.
11. Remove heater assembly.
b. Installation
1. Position heater assembly against cowl with
studs in proper holes, and install spring retainer
nuts on studs.
2. Install heater blower and inlet assembly as
described in Note 3b.
3. Install two screws securing heater to floor
duct connector to floor duct.
4. Straighten carpet and install right and left
cowl kick pads.
5. Connect defroster hoses to top of heater
assembly.
6. Connect bowden cables to defroster valve and"
temperature valve at pivot points on heater as-
sembly, and adjust cables as described in Note 1.
7. Connect electrical connectors to resistor
panel.
8. Install glove box assembly as described in
Section 15, Note 17b.
9. Connect heater water hoses to fittings on
heater assembly.
10. Fill cooling system.
7. Heater Assembly—Front
Removal and Installation (Non-Air
Conditioned Cars—75 Series)
a. Removal
1. Remove upper instrument panel cover as de-
scribed in Section 15, Note la.
2. Disconnect bowden cables from selector
(upper) and temperature (lower) control levers
and mark cables for correct installation.
3. Disconnect defroster
hoses from top of
heater assembly.
4. Remove right cowl kick pad.
5. Remove heater inlet duct assembly as
described in Note 5a.
6. Remove two spring retainer nuts from heater
mounting studs.
7. Pull front edge of carpet away from bottom
of heater assembly and remove assembly and
rubber gasket.
b. Installation
1. Position rubber gasket on heater assembly
and position assembly against cowl with studs in
proper holes, and install spring retainer nuts on
studs.
NOTE: Make sure bowden cables are not
tangled.
2. Install heater inlet duct assembly as de-
scribed in Note 5b.
3. Straighten carpet and install cowl kick pad.
4. Connect defroster hoses to top of heater
assembly.
5. Connect bowden cables to selector and tem-
perature control levers, and adjust cables as
described in Note 1.
6. Install upper instrument panel cover as de-
scribed in Section 15, Note lb.
