GENERAL DESCRIPTION
The design of the instrument panel assembly
used on all 1963 series cars is shown in Fig. 15-1.
The 1963 instruments are easy to read, and con-
trols are located for convenient operation.
The same instrument panel will be used on all
series, with certain minor components being
specific for the Seventy-Five series. An extension
assembly is added to the right and left side of the
instrument panel to adapt it to this series. The
Cruise Control Selector Unit, if so equipped, is
mounted on the left extension for Seventy-Five
series only.
This section of the 1963 Shop Manual contains
procedures for the removal and installation of all
components that are a part of, or attached to, the
1963 Cadillac instrument panel assembly.
Procedure c o v e r i n g disassembly, assembly,
testing, or adjustment of the various sub-assem-
blies are covered in the specific sections where
they apply.
SERVICE INFORMATION
1. Upper Instrument Panel Cover
Removal and Installation
a. Removal
1. Disconnect negative battery cable at battery.
2. Remove right and left windshield garnish
moldings by removing three screws in each
molding.
3. If car is equipped with Cruise Control, re-
move press fit "on" and "off" button, and remove
two screws securing Cruise Control escutcheon
to upper i n s t r u m e n t p a n e l cover. Remove
escutcheon.
4. Remove five screws retaining upper panel
cover to lower panel. Three screws are located
above instrument c l u s t e r assembly and two
screws at inside top of glove box.
5. Raise upper panel cover high enough to dis-
connect 3-way connector for map light and 3-way
socket type connector for Guide-Matic phototube
unit, if car is so equipped.
6. Pull cover rearward to disengage four hooks
at front of cover from retainers on cowl, and
remove cover.
b. Installation
1. Position upper cover on instrument panel,
aligning four hooks at front of cover with re-
tainers on cowl, and engage hooks in retainers.
NOTE: If car is equipped with Cruise Con-
trol, remove the left end cover to upper cover
screw and remove end cover. Align Cruise
