6. Remove stop assembly retaining screw and
move stop assembly aside.
7. Remove remaining screw that secures relay
control to housing and remove ground strap.
8. Remove relay control from housing after
unsoldering relay leads.
9. Remove crank arm retaining nut and crank
arm, Fig. 12-79.
10. Remove rubber seal.
11. Remove retaining ring, using Pliers, J-4880.
12. Remove end play washers, shield, and spac-
er washer.
NOTE: The number of end play washers may
vary in different wiper assemblies due to end
play requirements.
13. Remove gear mechanism from gear box and
slide spacer washer off gear assembly eccentric
shaft.
14. Slide drive plate and shaft assembly out of
gear assembly, separating lock and drive pawls,
and drive pawl spring.
c. Gear Box Assembly
(60 and 62 Series)
1. With drive shaft up, position lock and drive
pawls with pins up in their respective holes in
shaft and drive plate.
2. Position drive gear and eccentric shaft over
lock and drive pawl assemblies.
3. Connect drive pawl spring between the lock
and drive pawls.
4. Install spacer washer on eccentric shaft.
NOTE: To determine if end play is correct,
place two .005 inch feeler gages, one on each
side of the shaft, between snap ring and spacers.
Add or remove end play washers as required to
obtain a snug .005 inch clearance.
7. Pack rubber
seal with waterproof type
grease and install seal over shield so that tang on
shield is properly fitted to seal.
8. Install crank arm and tighten securely with
nut.
9. Position relay control assembly in housing,
splice and solder wires.
10. Solder leads to terminal board if board was
removed.
11. Solder new 20 ohm resistor to No. 3 termi-
nal (black wire) on terminal block.
12. Install terminal block in housing.
13. Position 20 ohm resistor on relay control
and secure with attaching screw.
14. Position ground strap on relay control and
secure with attaching screw.
15. Install stop assembly retaining screw.
16. Install latch and follower assembly on pivot
pin and position moveable arm over relay tab.
17. Install spacer and washer on pivot pin of
stop assembly and secure with " E " ring retainer.
18. Connect latch spring with large hook end in
latch and follower.
19. Lubricate each pivot point of latching mech-
anism with one drop of light oil.
NOTE: Do not use grease because a binding
condition may result in cold weather.
d. Gear Box Disassembly
(75 and Commercial Chassis)
1. Remove four screws retaining washer unit to
gear box and separate washer unit from wiper
unit.
2. Unsolder three leads attached to terminal
board if terminal board or ground s t r a p is
defective.
5. Install gear mechanism in housing.
6. Install
spacer washer, shield, end-play
washers and retaining ring, on shaft, using Pliers,
J-4880.
3. Disconnect small coil latch spring and re-
move " E " ring retainer, Fig. 12-74.
4. Lift latch and follower off pivot pin and re-
lay armature, and remove washer from pivot pin.
