ENGINE MECHANICAL
32. If car is equipped with Cruise Control, in-
stall accelerator linkage rod.
33. Connect rear heater outlet hose to hose
connector at rear of engine.
. 34. Connect vacuum hose and rear heater inlet
hose to water control valve.
35. Install pulley and fan blade assembly and
secure with four attaching screws.
36. Install generator belt and power steering
pump belt.
37. Install radiator assembly as described in
Section 11, Note 9.
38. Connect wires to generator.
39. If car is equipped with Air Conditioner, in-
stall compressor as described in Section 13,
Note 29b.
40. Adjust all drive belts.
41. Install carburetor air cleaner and connect
positive battery cable.
42. Install hood as described in Section 14,
Note 2b.
43. Replace engine oil.
44. Fill cooling system, adding anti-freeze if
necessary. Also add inhibitor and sealer.
45. Adjust TV rod and throttle control linkage
rod as described in Section 10, Note 26c.
46. Adjust engine timing as described in Section
12, Note 23.
47. Check for coolant and oil leaks.
39. Engine Support Mountings
Three engine support mountings and two engine
side support cushions are used to mount the
engine on all 1963 series Cadillac cars. The front
support mountings are located on each side of the
crankcase forward. The rear support mounting is
beneath the transmission extension housing at the
rear. The side support cushions are located on
each side of the transmission bell housing toward
the rear.
The front support mountings are seated at an
angle directly on the main front crossmember of
the frame. The rear support mounting at the
transmission is on a bracket bolted to the engine
rear
support crossmember. The side support
cushions are positioned against each side of the
bell housing and bolted to the No. 3 frame c r o s s -
member.
All engine
support mountings have
rubber cushions to absorb vibrations and road
shock.
It is important, when attaching the engine
mountings to engine, transmission, and frame,
that the nuts and screws be tightened to the proper
torque as follows:
Nut - Front Support Mount to Crankcase - 30
foot-pounds.
Nut - Front Support Mount Stud to Frame - 90
foot-pounds.
Nut - Side Support Cushion Mount to No. 3
Cross Member - 25 foot-pounds.
Screw - No. 3 Cross Member to Frame - 30
foot-pounds.
Screw - Rear Support Mount to Extension Hous-
ing - 55 foot-pounds.
Screw - Rear Support Mount to Rear Engine
Support - 55 foot-pounds.
Screw - Rear Engine Support to Frame - 30
foot-pounds.
NOTE:
The rear support cushion should be
a smooth flush fit in recess of transmission.
Check at all five engine support mounting lo-
cations
to be sure that no metal-to-metal
grounding can occur.
