Enabling Router Configuration Modes

Table 18-1 Enabling the Switch for Routing
Step To do this task...
1 From admin (su) mode,
enable router mode.
2 Enable router Privileged
EXEC mode.
3 Enable global router
configuration mode.
4 Enable interface
configuration mode using the
routing VLAN or loopback id.
5 Assign an IP address to the
routing interface.
6 Enable the interface for IP
routing.

Example

The following example shows how to configure VLAN 1 on IP address 182.127.63.1 255.255.255.0
as a routing interface.
C2(su)->router
C2(su)->router>enable
C2(su)->router#configure
Enter configuration commands:
C2(su)->router(Config)#interface vlan 1
C2(su)->router(Config-if(Vlan 1))#ip address 182.127.63.1 255.255.255.0
