How to Retrieve Dropped Screws and Other Hardware
If a screw or other hardware falls into the case during service, it is important to retrieve
it. Loose hardware left inside the device can short electrical connections, jam
mechanisms, and cause irreparable damage.
To retrieve hardware dropped into the device, consider trying any of the following, within appropriate
bounds of safety:
If you see the hardware, use the magnetic retriever tool and / or screwdriver or needle nose pliers to
carefully pull it out.
If you do not see the hardware, sweep the area with the magnetic retriever tool.
If the magnetic retriever tool doesn't catch the hardware, search around using the flashlight.
If you still do not see the hardware, carefully lift one side of the device slightly off the work surface
and gently shake it. The hardware should either dislodge and pop free, or make a rattling or rolling
sound that will make it easier to locate with the flashlight and magnetic retriever tool. If lifting one
side does not work, try another.
