4 - Preventive Maintenance Procedure (EC3000)
4.1

Prepare the Device for Preventive Maintenance

To prepare the device for service, follow these steps in accordance with standard safety practices:
1) Check the labels on the top access door and on the rear of the device to make sure you are servicing
an ExpressCard 3000. If you are servicing an ExpressCard 2000, the maintenance procedure is
slightly different.
2) Ask the customer operators or other customer representative if they have had any specific problems
with the device. If you need to troubleshoot a specific problem, address that before performing
preventive maintenance. See section 7 Diagnosis for assistance troubleshooting reported issues.
3) Offer the customer the opportunity to remove any proprietary or security-sensitive consumables from
the device, including card stock, image printer ribbons, indent cartridges, and tipper foils. Some
consumables contain negative imprints of cardholder data and must be handled securely.
4) Make sure the device is powered on and connected to the network.
5) Park the hopper shuttle at the front of the device by following these steps:

7) Open the two side access doors (see section 5.7 How to Remove / Re-install the Side Access
Doors).
8) Inspect the device for any items that do not belong inside the cover, and remove them (examples
include loose mechanical parts, cards, insect or animal leavings, or jewelry).
9) Inspect the mechanical parts inside the device and inside the image printer, paying special attention to
belts, cables, and plastic gears to see if there are signs of wear or damage.

Deep Clean the Image Printer

Deep clean the image printer per the steps in D998200281 ExpressCard 3000 Installation and
Operation Manual.
4.3

Clean Transport Rollers

Clean all the transport rollers per the steps in D998200281 ExpressCard 3000 Installation and
Operation Manual.
