C. DEEP CONTACT
If the contact mark is on the bottom of the ring gear
teeth, push the ring gear away from the pinion and
push the pinion into the ring gear (if necessary) to
maintain the backlash. Then, measure the backlash.
D. TIP CONTACT
If the contact mark is on the tip of the ring gear teeth,
pull the ring gear toward the pinion and pull out the
pinion from the ring gear (if necessary) to maintain the
backlash. Then, measure the backlash.

1. During assembly, make sure that the air gap be-
tween the end of the vehicle speed sensor and the
31 bevel gear of the transmission is within 1 mm
(0.039 in.).
IMPORTANT
• Do not impact the vehicle speed sensor; it is
sensitive to impact.
