Honda S Matic System (NSS250A)
DTC 42-1 (Shift switch)
• Before starting troubleshooting, check for loose
or poor contacts on the following connectors,
then recheck.
– Shift switch 3P (Black) connector
– PCM 21P (Black) connector
1. Shift Switch Continuity Inspection
Remove the inner cover (page 3-27).
Turn the ignition switch OFF.
Disconnect the shift switch 3P (Black) connector.
Check the continuity at the shift switch 3P con-
nector of the switch side when each shift switch
position pushed.
CONNECTION:
Yellow/black – White/blue (+ button)
Yellow/black – White/yellow (– button)
Is there continuity?
YES
NO
2. Shift Switch Input Voltage Line Inspection
Turn the ignition switch ON and engine stop
switch " ".
Measure the voltage between the shift switch 3P
connector of the wire side and ground.
CONNECTION: Yellow/black (+) – Ground (–)
STANDARD:
Is the voltage within 4.75 – 5.25 V?
YES
NO
3. Shift Switch Signal Line Continuity Inspection
Turn the ignition switch OFF.
Disconnect the PCM 21P (Black) connector (page
24-12).
Check the continuity between the PCM 21P and
shift switch 3P connectors of the wire side.
TOOL:
Test probe
CONNECTION:
White/blue – White/blue (+ button)
White/yellow – White/yellow (– button)
Is there continuity?
YES
NO

– GO TO STEP 2.
– Faulty shift switch
4.75 – 5.25 V
– GO TO STEP 3.
– • Open or short circuit in Yellow/black
wire
• Replace the PCM with a known good
one, and recheck.

– • Open circuit in White/blue wire
• Open circuit in White/yellow wire
